Nissan Titan King Cab Truck Review
Truck Reviewer
Nissan don’t do regular cab versions so the Nissan Titan King Cab is their lowest model – although in pretty much every respect “low” isn’t really the right word. Nissan build high quality trucks across the range and this is no exception. At the base trim level it’s no luxury limo, but neither are any of its rivals – in this market you get what you pay for. It has also been criticized of late for being a bit dated – it’s basically an eight year old design – but that just goes to show that eight years ago it was a class-leading pickup! Some of the competition may have a little more glitz and glamor, but as a hard-working hauling package you’ll find it tough to beat. There’s only one bed length, six-and-a-half-feet, which you can throw a good deal of stuff in – in a lot of different ways – thanks to the flexible Utili-Trak system of cleats, dividers, extenders and storage boxes. Maximum payload depends on 2 or 4-wheel drive, topping out at 2,153 lbs. When you need to attach a trailer, that can be anything up to 9,500 lbs. Without doubt the Nissan Titan King Cab is a truck built to work hard for a living.
That shouldn’t suggest it’s just some great big beast that will rattle your teeth out or break your back with its vibrations – not a bit of it. The Nissan Titan King Cab has a compliant ride and precise steering. Moving it on down the road comes courtesy of a V8, in this case a 32-valve 5.6 liter motor delivering an impressive 385 lb-ft of torque. It is also available as a Flex Fuel variant, using part ethanol, depending on your region. All trims have 2 or 4-wheel drive (except the 4×4 only off-road PRO-4X) and transmission is via 5-speed auto with tow/haul mode, which holds low gears longer for greater bottom-end power. Apart from the very off-road oriented PRO-4X with its Bilstein dampers, skid plates, locking diff, etc., there are three models: S, SV and SL. All take care of safety with multiple air bag arrangements, anti-lock brakes, traction and stability control. There is a useful optional hill start and descent kit if you are going to move large loads, long distances on a regular basis. The Nissan Titan King Cab has a comfortable, fairly spacious cabin offering anything from simple AM/FM radio, to high end stereo, wood and leather bits and many modern communications systems – all depending on your needs… and your bank balance.
For a pickup that’s supposed to be in need of a revamp, the Nissan Titan King Cab has a surprising number of modern extras if you want them. We like its exterior style, which is work-like, as befits its role, but doesn’t look like it’s been on too many steroids. It has an excellent engine, is good to drive and has capacities as big as anything in its class. We don’t know why you wouldn’t give it serious consideration.
