Lincoln Mark LT Truck Review
Truck Reviewer
The Lincoln Mark LT is a luxury pick up truck that was thoughtfully designed after the failure of the Lincoln Blackwood. The Blackwood had a few significant flaws and the LT was a chance to redeem the company’s attempts at creating luxury vehicles that could function in the practical world. The Lincoln Mark LT was much more successful thanks to the total redesign and the overhauling of the styling that went into it. As a luxury pick up truck this model has been able to prove itself luxurious as well as practical.
There is a definite and noticeable resemblance between the Lincoln Mark LT and the Ford F-150. Even with the resemblance intact, the upscale design outclassed the competitors. Each LT customer was given the choice between a bed length of 5.5 and one of 6.5. The Lincoln grille and badging along with the special taillights were really the only features found on the LT that you couldn’t get on the F-150.
In 2008 the Lincoln Mark LT ran its last run and was replaced by the equally as stylish and perhaps more honest version of the F-150 Platinum. With all of the similarities between the two it made more sense to develop the F-150 into its own luxury pick up truck.
The Lincoln Mark LT was only offered in a single trim level. The wheelbase came in a standard and long size depending on the preferred bed length. Leather heated seats, keyless entry, wood trim, and a high quality audio system were standard on the LT. In 2008 the satellite radio option also became standard. Optional equipment included a rearview camera system, navigational system, and a rear entertainment center. The final version in 2008 also added 18 inch chrome wheels, a power window for the rear, bed rail caps, and running boards.
The interior of the Lincoln Mark LT was well dressed in faux wood trim and chrome trimmed gauges for the driver. Details such as the exterior line of double stitching were considerable throughout the cabin. This made it much more visually appealing as a luxury vehicle. The 5.4 liter V8 offered 300 horses and 365 pounds of torque. Seating for five was considered to be roomy enough to allow for family transportation in style.
The four speed automatic transmission was a little lacking. There was not an alternative to the transmission so the consumers who purchased the truck were stuck with it. Critics and potential buyers were very much on the same page when it came to the belief that a more powerful vehicle would need to have at least five speeds and even offer a manual transmission for those who wanted it.
On the road the Lincoln Mark LT was smooth and agile. The ride was definitely one of luxury. While the handling wasn’t exactly spot on and the braking was deemed to be perpetually off the Lincoln Mark LT was a comfortable and stylish pick up that ended up much higher on the A-list than the Blackwood. With all of the positive aspects and few negative aspects, a well maintained used version of this pick up would still spell out luxury.
