GMC Trucks

Truck Reviewer

GMC trucks are consistently in the running for the favored positions among consumers but are always just a few steps behind the leaders. There are many speculative reasons for this, including marketing techniques. The overall value and quality of GMC trucks can’t be questioned, although the longevity of the vehicles might be. The initial standings in the consumer’s opinion were dulled by the late entry into the mid and compact size pick up race. In the late 1980s and early 1990s the trucks that were taking the country by storm were not the full size versions. Consumers wanted convenience and affordability wrapped into a single option.

The original Sonoma was the S-15. Eventually, GMC trucks changed the name and added some creature comforts in order to stay legitimately in the mid size pick up race. With better gas mileage and easier maneuverability, the Sonoma was considered a significant improvement to the overall line up.

The line up of GMC trucks was forced to expand if it was going to remain competitive. While the Sonoma was a good entry into the race, the two generations that were produced spanned 20 years. This was frowned upon by the consumer and the Sonoma was eventually replaced with the Sierra. The Sierra came out more refined, more user friendly, and certainly more popular than the Sonoma. This was one of the GMC trucks that defied rumors of poor longevity and was able to perform feats of heavy hauling and towing.

With modifications came new inspiration and GMC trucks suddenly became quite family friendly as well. With comfort and convenience features added to the structure the family became a more important focal point. The ability to tow high capacities and get through terrain was still a vital part of the vehicle but the overall satisfaction came when the family’s comfort was finally taken into consideration. This gives the owners of GMC trucks the ability to haul loads throughout the workday and haul the family throughout the evening.

The Sierra wasn’t as stylish as it could have been and sometimes still receives criticism for not sporting a classier look. Those who find such elements important to them tend to discover other vehicles in this class to be more their style. Styling aside, the functionality combined with the reasonable cost of the vehicle make it a relatively popular choice of consumers today.

There are three options when it comes to picking cab sizes, which can easily influence the family’s comfort and should be considered before making a final selection. Rear wheel drive and four wheel drive versions are also available. The overall power will be determined by the engine choice. The smaller, fuel efficient 4.3 liter doesn’t offer the same active pick up as the less efficient but more powerful 5.3 or 6.2 liter engines.

GMC trucks will continue to be a competitor in the race to be the best. It will take more than a few redesigns to really get this segment of the company moving forward as hard as it could. The consumer will need time to look at the latest models and determine if longevity is still an issue for them. Statistics will assure anyone that it is.
