Ford F-350 Super Duty Regular Cab Truck Review

Truck Reviewer

You have to look at the Ford F-350 Super Duty Regular Cab as the lowest rung on the F-350 ladder. Does that mean you don’t get much for your money? Far from it. While it’s perfectly true that this is no boulevard cruiser, if you want a big pickup to do hard work day in, day out, you won’t need to look any further. The Ford F-350 Super Duty Regular Cab looks like it was built for a purpose from the tires up. There’s plenty of ground clearance. Stick your head underneath and you’ll see a thick steel chassis and chunky suspension components. Then there are the vital statistics. Two or four-wheel drive, of course. The eight-foot bed can be run on single or twin-wheel rear axles. You can throw a lot of gear in there too. How much? Well 7,070 lbs to be precise. Towing? With a fifth-wheel the maximum is 22,600 lbs. That’s more than a few head of cattle in a trailer, or the average boat, that’s enough for a 38-foot fishing trawler – and its crew!

A big load needs a big motor to pull it, and the Ford F-350 Super Duty Regular Cab doesn’t disappoint there either. The standard 6.2 liter V8 will run on gasoline or ethanol, and delivers a hard-working 405 lb-ft of torque. However, the 6.7 liter turbo-diesel V8 option almost doubles that. An astounding 800 lb-ft. While a pickup like this is never going to be exactly nimble, that kind of power certainly gets it moving at a more than decent pace. You’ll be glad to know then that combined gross vehicle weight of up to 30,000 pounds handles with a good deal of composure and has the help of trailer sway control, disk brakes all-round with ABS, stability control and an integrated trailer brake which is an option on the XL and standard on the upscale XLT. So the Ford F-350 Super Duty Regular Cab goes well, and it stops well, what about a few creature comforts? Although it’s not over-loaded with luxury, the cabin is not entirely spartan. It’s well insulated from exterior noise, the seats are supportive and comfortable, but apart from manual air conditioning and AM/FM radio, that’s about it for the XL. The XLT gets cruise control, power windows, and CD/MP3 player. Whoopee.

To be fair, a lot of the options from higher spec versions are available if you want to pay the extra – but that’s not really why you buy the Ford F-350 Super Duty Regular Cab anyway. If it was about bells and whistles you would probably be looking at the Crew Cab. This pickup is built for people who need it to work hard for a living. It will handle pretty much whatever you throw at it, giving almost the same performance whether it’s empty or full. The Ford F-350 Super Duty Regular Cab will carry on doing it day, after day, after day…
