Dodge Ram Pickup 3500 Regular Cab Truck Review

Some vehicles make a lot of show and fuss. Others, like the Dodge Ram Pickup 3500 Regular Cab, just quietly get on with doing a darned fine job. Not that we don’t like the way it looks – it’s powerful, with what you might describe as a determined jawline. It’s not shouting about itself though, like some rivals. It looks like it was built tough to work long and hard – because that’s precisely what it’s for. You don’t buy a heavy-duty pickup like this instead of an SUV. Rough for them is going to a camp site at the weekend or doing the occasional bit of lifting. You buy a Dodge Ram Pickup 3500 Regular Cab because you need to throw a serious amount of gear in the back, or tow – well, more or less anything really. The 8-foot, dual rear-wheel axle set up has a couple of different options, with maximum load of over 5,000 pounds. With the right trailering spec you can tow up to 23,700 pounds.
To get all of that weight moving might seem a bit of a challenge, but not if you fit what Dodge does. Under the hood is the superb 6.7 liter Cummins turbo-diesel. The horsepower figure might impress but torque is where the grunt comes from, and this has a thundering 800 lb-ft delivered by a six-speed manual transmission (auto is available). Yes, it will haul. That doesn’t mean it’s a cumbersome old tank though. The Dodge Ram Pickup 3500 Regular Cab shows a surprising amount of consideration for driver and passenger. The cabin itself is hydraulically mounted to cut out vibration. Inside it’s quiet, with little wind noise and just a nice growl from the motor when you’re pushing on. There is plenty of storage and a generally high standard of fit and finish. It’s no high-end executive limousine but it’s not a bad place to spend a few hours if you’ve got to drive across country. The Dodge Ram Pickup 3500 Regular Cab has two trim levels, ST and SLT. They’re not overflowing with luxury but you get air conditioning, air bags, ABS, halogen headlamps, the useful electronic vehicle information system and decent CD/MP3 player. The upscale model adds power heated towing mirrors, trip computer and a few other bits and pieces. All of which is fine, but it won’t change your mind about whether to buy one or not.
Nobody buys a Dodge Ram Pickup 3500 Regular Cab because it’s got more “extras”. It’s not a sedan or station wagon, it’s a full-size truck with full-size abilities – and then some. It’s powerful and durable. Dodge reinforce their belief in its reliability by providing a 5-year, 100,000 mile warranty. It doesn’t have a lot of frills – but it has everything you need day to day and the odd creature comfort that makes it something you’ll be happy to get into each morning. Buying a Dodge Ram Pickup 3500 Regular Cab is never a bad decision.
