Dodge Ram Pickup 2500 Regular Cab Truck Review
Truck Reviewer
So you buy a truck like the Dodge Ram Pickup 2500 Regular Cab because you need to haul a good lot of stuff around most of the time, and maybe a trailer. It’ll get some rough treatment. It is going to be hammered across building sites or other broken, dirty surfaces and generally not given a lot of consideration. That’s what heavy-duty trucks like this are for, right? Doesn’t matter if it’s a bit short of creature comforts, like you it has to work for a living. While the life of the average Dodge Ram Pickup 2500 Regular Cab might be a lot like that, there are two inaccuracies. First, it’s not actually short on comforts and second, it is definitely not “average”. Now we’re not suggesting it’s kitted out like a luxury limo, but the driver environment was certainly high on Dodge’s list of priorities when they uprated the whole package a while back. This is not some rattly old pickup. Sure it is built tough, but not at the expense of the person behind the wheel. In fact some of the improvements – like better suspension – both increase capacity and give it superior manners on the asphalt.
So what about those capacities? Well the Dodge Ram Pickup 2500 Regular Cab has an eight-foot long bed that you can load up with a little over 3,000 lbs of whatever you need to. With the standard 5.7 liter Hemi V8 it will tow a more than reasonable 9,300 lbs. There’s an optional motor though, and this is when it really pulls. Choose the 6.7 liter inline six diesel from Cummins and that towing capacity goes out to 15,450 lbs, courtesy of a whopping 800 lb-ft of torque. Those figures are for the 2-wheel drive variant, and while the 4-wheel drive’s are a little lower, it’s still a seriously powerful truck. Actually I should probably say series of trucks, as both two and four-wheel drives get three trim levels each, from the basic but not under-equipped ST, through SLT to the Outdoorsman which, apart from upscale fittings and electronics, also gets some outdoor sports-related goodies. Even at the bottom of the range there’s good safety provision with anti-lock braking and air bags as standard. Fog lamps and a tire pressure monitor come with either choice above the ST. All Dodge Ram Pickup 2500 Regular Cabs benefit from a decent 6-speaker sound system.
OK, so let’s be honest. This is the workhorse. The Dodge Ram Pickup 2500 Regular Cab is not trying to be anything else. Its a full-size truck built to handle big tasks – which it does exceptionally well. However, thinking it’s just another load-lugger isn’t taking into account the advances made in drivability, cabin quality and almost every other aspect of its performance. The current Dodge Ram Pickup 2500 Regular Cab is a solid investment and a fine vehicle. You might well find owners of other trucks looking at you and wishing they had made the same choice.
