Dodge Ram Pickup 1500 Regular Cab Truck Review
Truck Reviewer
If the Dodge Ram Pickup 1500 Regular Cab is seen as the entry-level to Ram ownership then one thing’s for certain – they set their standards high! It may not have quite the ability to load up the family and all they need for a weekend in the hills, but in every other respect this is not just a very capable truck but an exceptionally well equipped one too. Initially, of course, you are going to be looking at the Dodge Ram Pickup 1500 Regular Cab as a working vehicle. It’s not a choice we think you would regret. Rock-solid underpinnings give it the potential to handle all the abuse you are likely to throw at it. If you opt for the 8-foot long box, rather than the standard 6-foot, 4-inch, you can throw up to 1900 pounds of gear in the back. It has a maximum towing capacity of 10,450 lbs as well. Not bad for a “lightweight”! As you would expect there’s a choice of two or four wheel drive and while the weights drop a little for the latter, it’s still a proper, go anywhere, do anything, hard working vehicle.
Making sure the Dodge Ram Pickup 1500 Regular Cab goes as well as it tows are three engines. There’s nothing wrong with the base V6, a 3.7 liter unit, but serious lugging will be a good deal easier with the 4.7 liter V8 or the monstrous (and we have to say entertaining) 5.7 liter Hemi. You get four or five-speed auto transmission depending on model, and remarkably sedan-like road manners thanks to a superb suspension set-up. Individual preferences for handling can be catered for with the Outdoorsman option (formerly TRX) which is tuned more for rough terrain and includes skid plates, or the Sport R/T which is aimed at the owner who spends more time on the freeway. There’s great attention to detail in these changes which include different rear axle ratios and the resulting acceleration, climbing or towing improvements. Safety remains a priority in the Dodge Ram Pickup 1500 Regular Cab with ABS, traction and stability control and multiple air bags all standard. The base model ST isn’t exactly overloaded with luxuries, but really that’s not what you by it for. Going up the range the equipment levels vary from adequate to pretty special, with good stereo options and an array of modern connectivity if that’s what you need.
Those who want a workhorse will not be disappointed by the Dodge Ram Pickup 1500 Regular Cab. That’s not the whole story though, because along with being one seriously tough truck it’s also quite a nice place for the driver to be – not always a consideration with some manufacturers. It may not take the whole family out but if you and a friend want to get away from it all you can hook up the boat, throw in the fishing tackle and set off in surprising comfort. The Dodge Ram Pickup 1500 Regular Cab is certainly an excellent all-rounder.
