Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD Regular Cab Truck Review

If you’re looking at the Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD Regular Cab, rather than the slightly more up-market Extended or Crew cabs, the chances are you are more interested in the job it’s going to do for you than any bells and whistles in the cabin. You’ll want to know about the incredibly rigid box steel chassis that enables it to carry up to 4,600 pounds (if you choose the single rear wheeled version) or 6,635 pounds in the dual rear wheel “Dooley” option. You’ll be delighted to hear that the beefier uprated suspension now allows the Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD Regular Cab to haul an impressive 14,500 lbs. That either one of the two engines available have more than enough power to shift all that weight with ease. If you’re a business person you’ll also be pleased to hear that rather than costing you more to run, it will actually cost you less. The fact that you might enjoy driving this superb pickup is just a bonus! Seriously though, much as it has the ability to put in a hard day’s work, it’s also a very well sorted vehicle from a drivers point of view. It handles well and has pace to spare.
As the entry level to Chevy 3500HD ownership, you might expect it to be a bit short on features. It’s true that it’s no luxury limo, but the Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD Regular Cab has plenty of the things you need most. Over 8 feet of load bed can be under-pinned by two or four wheel drive. There’s more than enough poke from the standard 6.0 liter V8 gas engine with its 300 plus horsepower, but if you really need exceptional grunt there’s the optional 6.6 liter turbo-diesel V8 with it’s massive torque of 765 lb-ft. Gearboxes are smooth, six-speed Allison units. For your safety there are driver and passenger air bags and anti-lock brakes as standard. Upgrade from the base WT to the LT and you also get the clever OnStar system that provides for navigation, hands-free calling, crash response and stolen vehicle assistance. Inside the Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD Regular Cab gadgets and goodies are, as you would expect, a little on the thin side. There’s a decent AM/FM radio and an auxiliary power output as standard but for CD player, cruise control, MP3 or Bluetooth you either need the LT or deeper pockets.
But then if you wanted gizmos and gadgets you probably wouldn’t be looking at the Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD Regular Cab in the first place. What you really want it for, it does, and then some. It’s a big, powerful workhorse. It will haul a huge amount of gear around day after day while still providing you with decent levels of comfort. In terms of ability you’ll find it extremely tough to beat. When it come to real value for money we’re not sure there’s a better pickup than the Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD Regular Cab out there at all.
