Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Extended Cab Truck Review

If it’s true that this sector competes for bragging rights about gross vehicle weight, trailering and load lugging, then the Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Extended Cab has plenty to brag about. The torsionally stiff, box steel frame is amazingly strong, giving this excellent full-size heavy duty pickup a maximum load capacity of a few pounds over 3,500 and the ability to tow 14,300. It is definitely built to live up to expectations. It’s powerful too. The standard 6.0 liter gas motor is a rumbling V8 in the best traditions of the breed but it’s the turbo-diesel option that has attracted a lot of attention. It’s a 6.6 liter V8 which puts out a very healthy 397 horsepower and a monstrous 765 lb-ft of torque. Serious numbers. It’s also a clever engine, cleaner, more fuel efficient and with the ability to use B20 biodiesel. There’s also a useful exhaust braking feature, meaning you don’t always need to stand on the pedal to slow you down, and a hill start function that holds the brakes for just a second while you accelerate. Get the Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Extended Cab moving and it doesn’t disappoint either. Surprisingly for such a big beast, it has superb road manners. Even empty it has a surprising poise and balance, over smooth tarmac and broken surfaces.
When it comes time to choose your Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Extended Cab you might need a few minutes! With two or four-wheel drive, standard or long bed and WT, LT and LTZ trim levels you have a dozen different pickups before you even start looking at the long list of options. Both motors are mated to 6-speed Allison auto boxes, beefier for the increased output of the diesel. Handling comes courtesy of independent front suspension and uprated leaf-sprung rear that adds almost sedan-like refinement. Away from all that grunt and muscle you’ll have a choice of trim levels to make, but none will be lacking in safety features. Air bags, ABS, traction control, Stabilitrak electronic stability control and tire pressure monitor are standard across the range. The extra security, safety and navigational benefits of the OnStar system are an option for the WT, standard on LT and LTZ. Inside the Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Extended Cab there’s plenty of space to stow stuff, and a selection of equipment that ranges from the basic AM/FM radio to a Bose sound system, from a useful additional auxiliary power outlet to MP3, Bluetooth, USB and a rear view camera. All that is before picking any optional extras!
A lot of thought has gone into the Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Extended Cab and the result is not just great working capabilities and more efficiency all-round, but a truck that is a pleasure to drive too. It’ll deal with a day at the building site, a weekend in the mountains and a night on the town with equal composure. It has some seriously tough competition but you’ll struggle to find anyone who would take a rival instead.
