Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Crew Cab Truck Review

Truck Reviewer

If you’re going to add the title “Heavy Duty” to a truck, it better live up to it. There’s absolutely no doubt with the Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Crew Cab. This is one big, powerful beast. It starts with an incredibly strong boxed steel frame. Rear leaf springs are 3 inches wide. Unusually, Chevy add independent front suspension which not only means better handling on rough terrain but also gives the big pickup surprisingly sharp, almost sedan-like steering on tarmac. The result of all this muscle under the skin is the ability to carry a payload of over 3,300 pounds. It will also trailer close to 14,000 pounds. The Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Crew Cab variant might generally be felt to be the less work-oriented, thanks to its increased passenger space, but that doesn’t mean it’s any less capable of putting in the hard work or shifting a load. While it’s doing it, it will reward you with one of the best drives in the class. It would be considered decently quick if it was an ordinary family car, but for something that weighs close to four tons the ability to hit sixty mph in around 7 seconds is just awesome!

That’s what you get from the optional Duramax 6.6 liter turbo-diesel, which is going to be a popular choice for many. It produces almost 400 horsepower and a massive 765 foot pounds of torque. Not that the standard gas-powered V8 at 6 liters is exactly feeble! Whichever you choose you get a six-speed auto box that’s been beefed up to take the Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Crew Cab considerable output. There are three trim levels, ranging from the not-so-basic WT to the range-topping LTZ. On the outside it’s a smart looking truck. The traditional Chevy hood power dome has returned and a few of the angles have been softened. Inside it can be anything from durable and purposeful, to pretty luxurious, depending on your choices. If you want the workhorse version you get a good deal more than just basic necessities. If you want it for work and play you can have dual zone climate control, Bose stereo, leather-appointed front bucket seats, navigation system, Bluetooth and USB – you name it. When it comes to safety, everyone gets air bags, ABS, tire pressure monitor, traction and stability control. The clever, multi-disciplined OnStar system is also standard on all but the base WT, where it’s an option.

The Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Crew Cab certainly lives up to it’s billing as a heavy duty pickup, but it’s much more than that. With the diesel engine you get the benefit of exhaust breaking which is a great help when fully loaded or towing. There’s hill-start assist, that holds the brakes for just a second after you release them so you can get the power down. The Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Crew Cab will also deliver a great all-round motoring experience on those days when it, and you, aren’t hard at work.
