Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Regular Cab Truck Review
Truck Reviewer
So you don’t want a lot of fuss, you want a good, reliable, hard working truck. The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Regular Cab fits the bill perfectly. Ah, but you don’t want some rattling tin box, you want something that has a touch of sophistication, something you can pick your partner up from work in. Something you’re not going to be ashamed of on a social outing. Well, at the risk of repeating myself, the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Regular Cab fits the bill perfectly. Seriously though, take a look. This is a pickup that’s built to do a hard day’s work but it’s also got a bit of style. There’s a choice of smooth-running engines which are further refined by hydraulic engine mounts. It’s got good suspension, and steering as sharp as many sedans. It’s no Ferrari but then you don’t buy a full-size truck like the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Regular Cab to go cruising the strip. It has a job to do. It’s a bonus that once it has done that, it still has the poise and presence not to look out of place in the restaurant parking lot!
Considering this is the entry-level Chevy Silverado, the specification is more than adequate. In two or four-wheel drive it can have either standard or long box. That’s six foot, six inches or eight foot, depending on your needs. The motors I mentioned are either an economical 4.3 liter that is gas fueled, or a 300 plus horsepower 4.8 liter V8 that will take either gas or ethanol. Both supply drive via a four-speed auto box with overdrive. Suspension is independent front and leaf spring rear – which is all you need, but the Z71 off-road package is available for the higher spec LT if you’re going to be spending a lot of time in rough terrain. Your safety is more than adequately taken care of with anti-lock brakes, traction and stability control, tire pressure monitor and six airbags. Inside the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Regular Cab it isn’t wall-to-wall luxury but it isn’t bare steel either. You get a decent AM/FM radio (a CD player is an option), climate control and you can add Bluetooth if you need it. Although both trim levels are quite basic, there are a lot of options available if they appeal to you.
But let’s not get away from the fact that the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Regular Cab is a working vehicle. If you’re a contractor looking for tough pickup that will lug around up to 1,800 pounds of gear – or trailer 10,000 pounds – then this could well be the truck for you. It has been around long enough now to be well sorted. There are no great changes for the current model year because none were really needed. The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Regular Cab is not a fashion statement or a design exercise. It’s a real truck, for the real world, and like you it has to work for a living. It does that particularly well.
