Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Extended Cab Truck Review
Truck Reviewer
What you get with the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Extended Cab is not just a good looking, hard working, pickup with extra cabin space. It appears Chevy put a lot of thought into who this full-size truck would appeal to, and the result is an extraordinary flexibility which means there’s a version that that will suit just about anyone looking for this kind of vehicle. Before we go there though, let’s look at the benefits you get whichever Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Extended Cab you buy. We like the purposeful looks. It’s a truck, not a sports car, and we like the fact that it looks like one. Under the skin it actually drives surprisingly well for such a big beast with accurate steering and excellent road manners. The standard suspension is good, but you can tinker with it quite a lot down at the dealership (or indeed on the internet). You can muscle things up if you’re going to spend considerable time on rough terrain, or tune it towards tarmac use if you’re going to be eating up a lot of road miles. Either way you get the satisfying clunk of a well built vehicle when you close the door and a general feeling of solidity. No random squeaks and rattles here!
So would you like big or bigger? The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Extended Cab standard bed length is nearly 80 inches (or 60 cubic feet of cargo space). Not bad at all, but the long bed – available for both 2 and 4-wheel drive – gives you close to 20 inches more (and another 15 cubic feet of cargo). If you’ve got a lot of weight to carry then depending on specification you can load over 1,700 pounds or tow up to 10,700 pounds. This pickup certainly won’t shy away from a hard days work! Making sure it doesn’t take all day to get where you need to go is down to either a gas-powered 4.3 liter V6 or a choice of 4.8 or 5.3 liter V8s that take either gas or ethanol. Drive is delivered via auto boxes, 4 or 6-speed, both with overdrive. There’s no shortage of urgency when you press the loud pedal. So it’s got enough grunt, what about a bit of refinement? Well how much would you like? Down at the lower end of the scale, the WT is basic but still has all you need. As you move up the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Extended Cab trim levels you get more and more – it’s just up to you to decide when to say whoa! Safety is important of course, and even the budget model is supplied with air bags, Stabilitrak stability control, ABS, traction control and tire pressure monitor as standard.
The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Extended Cab isn’t so much one pickup as an entire range. They are all tough, durable vehicles that return a lot for the investment you make. They are also well-behaved and there are many nice thoughtful features like the wide opening rear doors to allow easy access for passengers. Nobody who buys one will regret their choice.

The more I drive my 2011 Silverado, the more I like it!! BUT what really has impressed me is how my truck held up in a bad storm. A huge limb broke off and fell straight down on the cab. It landed at the corner of the windshield and front door. Did not break the windshield and the door closes as if there is nothing wrong. It is totally unbelievable! I have lots of pictures…the limb was 42 inches around. Everyone says we should make a commercial. We would like for GM to know. We have always been GM owners and will definatly not wander. Thanks so much from the Doves.
