The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Crew Cab competes in a crowded market. Full-size pickups continue to be popular and there are a lot of different models around – from Japan as well as the US. In spite of more recent introductions, the Chevy is definitely one of the forerunners and continues to gain high praise from road testers – who get to drive pretty much everything. On the one hand it can be a tough workhorse with great capacities. Depending on model you can throw over 1,700 pounds of stuff in the back, or haul up to 10,600 pounds. When it comes time to call it all to a halt you always feel in control, thanks to good rubber and strong, progressive brakes.

There are four standard trim levels that apply to both two and four-wheel drive Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Crew Cabs, plus a fifth, the XFE, which is a lightweight, high fuel efficiency two-wheel drive only. Power comes from rumbling V8s – either 4.8 or 5.3 liter – both taking gas or ethanol. Gearboxes are four-speed autos for the more work-oriented models and six-speed autos for the XFE and the range-topping LTZ. All have overdrive. That precision steering is assisted by the independent front suspension, with a 2-stage multi-leaf set-up soaking up the bumps at the rear. The safety angle is taken care of by tire pressure monitors, air bags, traction and stability control and ABS, standard across the range. The OnStar navigation, security, and safety system is standard on all but the entry-level WT, where it’s an option. When you start looking at your choices inside the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Crew Cab you might need to take notes! Everything from basic minimum of AM/FM radio to Bluetooth connectivity, from climate control to heated and powered seats (with memory). Deciding will take a while! Actually deciding you want a Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Crew Cab is not difficult at all. It’s a handsome beast, it’s extremely capable, it’s powerful and it handles well. The comprehensive standard equipment can be further enhanced to create exactly the truck you want for just about every situation. The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Crew Cab will put in a shift at work, take the family out in the evening and across country at the weekend. It does it all in a quiet, civilized way that has made it an awful lot of friends. But then, what’s not to like?
