Chevrolet Colorado Regular Cab Truck Review

Truck Reviewer

If you’re looking for a hard working, reasonably priced small truck you aren’t going to go far wrong with the Chevrolet Colorado Regular Cab. It’s been around long enough now that any wrinkles have been ironed out. It’s never going to out-drag the big boys or turn heads on the boulevard, but that’s not what you choose one of these for anyway. That’s not to say it’s ugly. Purposeful would be more what we would call the styling. It’s not covered in lumps of carbon fiber or alloy that will just get banged or broken off, it’s just tidy – smart and functional. If you need a rugged, durable vehicle that you can throw a big load of tools or materials in and just plain go to work, the Chevrolet Colorado Regular Cab could well be just about perfect. Maximum payload is nearly 1,500 pounds so for its size it’ll lug around a more than decent weight. When the days work is finished and you want to run down to town in it, the easy clean bed liner means smartening it up can be done in a matter of minutes.

As for specification, you get more than you might think from the entry-level Chevrolet Colorado Regular Cab. In the engine department both two and four-wheel drive share the same robust 2.9 liter inline four cylinder engine. In both trim choices this comes with a five speed manual gearbox. An auto box is available and the higher trim Z85 4×4 has the Insta-Trac electronic shifter with dash-mounted controls. Suspension is competent torsion bar front and multi-leaf, 2 stage rear. It’s not complex but it doesn’t need to be. One of the major benefits of this truck is its general simplicity – and it’s all the better for it. That doesn’t mean it’s lacking useful features. In addition to the comprehensive Onstar safety, security and navigation system there’s also ABS, air bags, traction control and fog lamps – all at no extra cost on even the base model WT. You also get a decent AM/FM radio (CD player is an option) and Bluetooth connectivity. Go for the 1LT trim and you gain MP3 playback, nice 16” aluminum wheels, privacy glass and a few other extra touches. Not things you need necessarily, but as the Chevrolet Colorado Regular Cab doesn’t exactly break the bank you might want to treat yourself.

Details aside, if you want to sum up what kind of compact truck the Chevrolet Colorado Regular Cab is you can pretty much judge its character just by looking at it. In a world where body kits and any number of bells and whistles seem to serve no useful purpose, the Chevrolet Colorado Regular Cab stands out by delivering just what you demand of it. We like it’s slightly retro looks. We appreciate the fuss-free way it goes about its task. If what you need is a pickup that’s built to do a job day after day, without any drama, it certainly won’t disappoint.
