Chevrolet Colorado Crew Cab Truck Review
Truck Reviewer
Sometimes a vehicle doesn’t live up to its billing but the Chevrolet Colorado Crew Cab certainly does. You get precisely what you pay for. A tough truck, built to work hard day after day and then come back for more. Of course you can also load it up and head out to the desert, or up into the hills for the weekend. This rugged performer will do what you need, when you need it, fuss free. You might categorize it as a small pickup, but it’s way more than the name suggests and the crew cab version offers top of the range benefits that go beyond extra interior space. It may not have the standards of luxury of some of the bigger models but the Chevrolet Colorado Crew Cab isn’t trying to be a high-class sedan. It won’t make such a big hole in your pocket either! Not that it’s short on features, it’s just more focused. It doesn’t try to be things it’s not. It does what it does extremely well, which is probably why it’s still going strong after so many years.
In case we’re giving you the idea that it’s not decently equipped, let’s clear that up right now. The Chevrolet Colorado Crew Cab can almost be custom-built to match your needs. For starters there’s two or four-wheel drive and, depending on which you choose, you can have it powered by an economical 2.9 liter inline four, a gutsy 3.7 liter inline five or the potent 5.3 liter V8 that kicks out 300 horsepower and has torque to spare. Inside the spacious cabin you may not get unnecessary glitz and glamor but you do get AM/FM stereo and a CD player, climate control, cruise control and Bluetooth connectivity – to name just a few of the standard items. The Chevrolet Colorado Crew Cab might not break the bank, but it’s certainly not low rent. There’s not shortage of important safety features either: airbags, ABS, traction control, fog lamps, tire pressure monitor and Onstar safety, security and navigation system. Like we said, not light on specification at all. There are a few options that might tempt you too, like a sunroof, or uprated suspension tuned for heavy-duty or off-road use. Talking of use, let’s not forget that you can throw at least 1,200 pound of load in the back of this so-called “small” pickup!
The Chevrolet Colorado Crew Cab is not some dramatic sports car you lust after, but then to be fair, it’s not pretending to be. If you want a purposeful truck with performance to spare, the V8 version will deliver. If you want a reliable workhorse, that will take the rough with the smooth, you’ll be hard pressed to find a more willing partner. In a world where so often there’s a lot of flash and not a lot of action, it continues to deliver the old world value of great value for money. The Chevrolet Colorado Crew Cab is ready for work when you are – today, tomorrow and every day.
